The headline for everyday users: Keynote, Pages and Numbers now have built-in AI assistants. On top of that, external AI agents such as ChatGPT or Claude can connect directly to all three apps through the Model Context Protocol (MCP).

1. What the AI assistant can do

The assistant is built on models from Apple and OpenAI. It reads the context of the document you have open, so you never need to copy and paste anything into a chatbot.

Its job differs by app. In Keynote, it helps design, animate, and refine slides. In Pages, it drafts, restructures, and fine-tunes written content. In Numbers, it calculates, visualizes, and organizes data, recommends chart types with a one-tap preview, and builds custom tables using world knowledge.

2. MCP: the door for outside AI agents

The bigger news for power users may be MCP. With Model Context Protocol support, external AI agents and tools can read document content, make edits, and run automated actions directly inside Keynote, Pages and Numbers.

MCP is the open standard Anthropic introduced for connecting AI models to apps and data. Apple adopting it means workflows you build with ChatGPT or Claude can operate directly on a Keynote, Pages or Numbers file open on your Mac. heise notes Apple has not yet explained how it will prevent unwanted edits or document content from leaking.

3. Availability and requirements

The AI assistant in Keynote, Pages and Numbers requires an Apple Intelligence-capable device running iOS 27, iPadOS 27, or macOS 27 or later. It rolls out in beta and works in US English only for now.

MCP is limited to Mac and requires macOS 27 or later. The Creator Studio updates arrive on the App Store in November 2026 as a free update for existing subscribers. Apple has not given a specific release date.

4. More in the same update

The announcement is not only about productivity apps. Final Cut Pro for Mac now integrates MotionVFX, the visual effects, template and graphics collection Apple acquired earlier. Pixelmator Pro gets Generate Fill, a tool that edits part of an image from a plain-language description.

Logic Pro also gains a beta AI assistant that can set up a vocal track from a single prompt, alongside a redesigned Browser that analyzes and tags sounds on-device.

What it means for you

Apple has long trailed Microsoft and Google in the AI assistant race. This update shows its strategy: do not build everything in-house, lean on OpenAI models, open the MCP door to other agents, and put AI directly into the apps people already use daily.

Wait for November. The assistant and the other updates land on the App Store in November 2026, free for existing Creator Studio subscribers.

English only for now. The assistant is in beta and understands US English only.
