But with eight or ten of them, the total quietly grows. Worse, some are subscriptions we have forgotten about, yet they are still charged to our card every month.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Cp>You do not need a special app to take control of this. Set aside 30 minutes and follow the four steps below.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Ch2>Step 1: Collect every subscription (10 minutes)\u003C\u002Fh2>\n\u003Cp>Open the places that usually record recurring charges:\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Cul>\n\u003Cli>Credit and debit card statements for the last three months\u003C\u002Fli>\n\u003Cli>Your subscription list in Google Play or the App Store\u003C\u002Fli>\n\u003Cli>Your email, searching for &quot;receipt&quot;, &quot;invoice&quot; or &quot;subscription&quot;\u003C\u002Fli>\n\u003C\u002Ful>\n\u003Cp>Write every subscription in one list: name, price, billing frequency (monthly or yearly) and charge date.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Ch2>Step 2: Convert everything to a monthly price (5 minutes)\u003C\u002Fh2>\n\u003Cp>Yearly subscriptions are easy to overlook because you only pay once. To compare fairly, divide the yearly price by 12.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Cp>Example: a RM180 yearly plan equals RM15 a month.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Cp>Then add everything up. Multiply the monthly total by 12 to see the yearly cost. The yearly number is usually the eye opener.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Ch2>Step 3: Label each one (10 minutes)\u003C\u002Fh2>\n\u003Cp>For each subscription, ask two questions:\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Col>\n\u003Cli>When did I last use this?\u003C\u002Fli>\n\u003Cli>If it were cancelled today, would I notice this week?\u003C\u002Fli>\n\u003C\u002Fol>\n\u003Cp>Then give it one of three labels:\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Cul>\n\u003Cli>\u003Cstrong>Keep.\u003C\u002Fstrong> Used often and clearly worth it.\u003C\u002Fli>\n\u003Cli>\u003Cstrong>Review.\u003C\u002Fstrong> Used occasionally. There may be a cheaper plan, or it could be shared with family.\u003C\u002Fli>\n\u003Cli>\u003Cstrong>Cut.\u003C\u002Fstrong> Rarely or never used.\u003C\u002Fli>\n\u003C\u002Ful>\n\u003Cp>Watch out for subscriptions that overlap, such as two cloud storage services or three AI tools that do almost the same job.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Ch2>Step 4: Act and set a budget (5 minutes)\u003C\u002Fh2>\n\u003Cp>Cancel everything labelled \u003Cstrong>Cut\u003C\u002Fstrong> right now, while you are still motivated. For anything labelled \u003Cstrong>Review\u003C\u002Fstrong>, put a calendar reminder a few days before the next charge date.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Cp>Finally, set one monthly budget number for all subscriptions. Whenever you want to sign up for something new, check first whether it still fits that budget.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Ch2>Make it a habit\u003C\u002Fh2>\n\u003Cp>A one time audit helps, but new subscriptions will keep appearing. Repeat this review every three months.
